gardening watergardens htm

Regular watering is essential to growing plants in a hanging basket. By using drought-tolerant plants and flowers, it will reduce money and time spent on irrigation.

Amend the soil so that it absorbs and stores water. Plants need light, water, air, soil, and fertilizer in order to flourish. These flowers generally produce the maximum bang for your dollar.

Strong smells such as garlic, baby powder, chili power, or rotten eggs all interfere with the wildlife's ability to smell the plants that they like to eat. If the plant needs direct sunlight it may be more difficult to bring in rather than a plant that just needs partial light. Remember the watering needs inside a greenhouse are different because the environment is enclosed a majority of the time and a fair amount of moisture becomes trapped lessening the amount of water required.

Misting also helps with keeping the plants happy. Things such as grass clippings, egg shells, leaves, coffee grinds, and vegetable and fruit peels make great composting material.
